A check engine light should not mean a $120 diagnostic fee.

Plug it into the OBD2 port under the dash, pair it with your phone over Bluetooth, and see in 30 seconds whether the code is a loose gas cap or a real problem. Walk into the shop already knowing.

Details

  • Reads and clears check engine codes on OBD2 vehicles (1996 and newer in the US)
  • Pairs over Bluetooth, works with free OBD2 apps on your phone
  • Live data too: engine temp, RPM, voltage and more, depending on the app
  • Compact black dongle, no cables, no batteries

Not a substitute for a mechanic. It tells you what the car is saying so you can decide what to do about it.

What's in the box

  • Bluetooth OBD2 dongle

How to use it

  1. Find the OBD2 port under the dash, usually near the driver's knees.
  2. Plug the dongle in. The car does not need to be running, but the key should be on.
  3. Turn on Bluetooth, open a free OBD2 app, and pair.
  4. Read the code. Clear it only after you know what it means.

Who it's for

  • New drivers: a check engine light is less scary when you can read it yourself.
  • Gig drivers: know if you can finish the shift or need a shop today.
  • Anyone who hates surprise shop fees: walk in already knowing the code.

Good to know

  • Works on most US cars and light trucks, 1996 and newer, with a standard 16-pin OBD2 port.
  • You download a free OBD2 app on your phone. The dongle does not come with its own paid app.
  • It reads the codes the car already stored. It does not replace a mechanic or a smog test.
  • No batteries. It draws power from the port.

FAQ

Will it work on my car?
If the car is 1996 or newer in the US and has the standard OBD2 port under the dash, yes. That covers almost every gas car and light truck from those years.

Do I have to pay for an app?
No. Free OBD2 apps on iPhone and Android will read and clear codes. Some extra live-data features vary by app.

Can it hurt the car?
Reading codes does not change anything. Clearing a code turns the light off. If the problem is still there, the light comes back.

What if it is not for us?
30-day returns.

Shipping and returns

Free US shipping, usually 7 to 12 business days. 30-day returns.

Tiny and it works

Lives in the glovebox. No cables, no batteries. I used it before a road trip just to see live temps and it connected fine. If you have a 1996 or newer car this is an easy buy.

Saved me a diagnostic fee

Check engine light came on a Tuesday. I was already bracing for the shop fee. Plugged this in, paired it, and it was a loose gas cap. Cleared the code, drove it, light stayed off. Paid for itself the first week.

Simple enough for a new driver

My son is 17 and I wanted him to know what the car is saying before he calls me in a panic. Setup took maybe two minutes. The free app shows the code in plain English. Not magic, but it takes the mystery out of the light.
